El libro presume de ser la lista definitiva de los mejores discos de la historia, o por lo menos, de los que merecen ser escuchados (Como el caso de "Low" de David Bowie que no es un gran disco en si pero merece ser escuchado por lo que supuso en la evolución de Bowie y de la música de la época). Esta apreciación es muy importante ya que en el libro podemos encontrar algunos discos que... en fin, de "mejores" no tienen nada.
El libro de forma general es muy completo; una pequeña crítica de cada disco, lista de canciones de cada grupo (teniendo en cuenta el contenido del disco original, si en alguna edición posterior se añade alguna canción bonus se indica), fotografías y ficha técnica del disco. Si entramos un poco en detalle las críticas parecen como para salir del paso. No se centran demasiado e incluso he encontrado alguna en la que se habla más de otro disco que del criticado. Esas pequeñas críticas son útiles en muchos casos pero en ocasiones no dicen absolutamente nada, quiero pensar que los autores se vieron atrapados en el espacio que se les concedía en cada página.
Otro punto oscuro del libro se encuentra a medida que nos acercamos al presente. Si en los años 90 se hecha de menos algun disco, en la década 00 hay grandes olvidados y disparatadas menciones. Creo que todos los que hemos tenido la oportunidad de ver el libro con calma hemos alucinado al ver... bueno, a un par de ídolos adolescentes, y más nos hemos reido al leer el comentario que acompaña al disco. Ahora bien, imaginemos a una persona que nunca ha escuchado musica y debe escuchar esos mil y un discos, creo que no estaría de más que escuchase a Britney o a Justin ¿no?. No se va a morir y creo que algo aprenderá. Ahora, si nos salimos de esa pequeña posiblidad, no acabo de entender que hacen ahí esos "reyes" del pop.
He comprado el libro, lo he mirado a fondo y lo recomiendo. Es una herrramienta útil.

Hola MasterOfPuppets, estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo, no se si lo dices por lo que escribí anteriormente, no era mi intención expresar un rechazo a determinados tipos de musica. Apocalyptica no tiene ninguna mención en el disco pero Metallica tiene los siguientes:

El libro procura tener de todo tipo de música pero es imposible citar a todos.

Supongo que tienes razón, cualquier lista de "lo mejor..." lo peor"...es muy relativa...De todas maneras, conozco éste libro (también lo hay de cine) y siempre he tenido la tentación de comprarlo, por más defectos que luego considere que tenga. Siempre es enriquecedor, creo yo, que te recomienden discos, te gusten luego más o no.
Las listas son eso, listas. Pero sirven de mucho, sobre todo en esos momentos que no sabes que descargar, a mi me pasa. Abro una pagina del libro al azar y descargo el disco. Me tengo llevado gratas sorpresas que me llevan a seguir y coleccionar a algunos artistas, ahora si, de forma original...

Que bien que has publicado la lista de los discos que sugiere el libro. He visto nombres muy interesantes pero no encontre nada de Nick Cave y Cia. Hay veces que necesitamos de alguien que nos recuerde discos, ni buenos ni malos, o mejores ni peores, esa es la principal funcion del book y la cumple muy bien. Seguro habran joyas que consideramos una aberracion no haberlas incluido pero compensara con otros que ni recordabamos o que si no era por verlo aqui no le dabamos ni bolilla.

Realmente me parece interesante y original el hecho de presentar una relacion con las canciones mas importantes de tales decadas, en todo caso les hago la invitacion para que escuchen ...:::((( RADIO RETRO ))):::..., musica de los 70s, 80s y 90s durante las 24 horas del dia, saludos para todos...Carlos

Esto me recuerda al protagonista de la peli hight fidelity que se pasaba los dias haciendo listas de canciones....
Ahora en serio, si queremos una guia util para conocer buena musica, creo que deberia hacerse por estilos musicales y no por decadas, es una sugerencia.....
De todas formas si alguien prefiere hacerlo por decadas en la web se pueden descargar los discos recopilatorios de todos los 100 top Billboard por años, desde los 50 hasta la actualidad, asi encontrareis a todos los artistas y discos de la lista del libro de una tacada, eso si, tendras que escuchar a justin y a britney al lado de dylan o white stripes.......

De todos modos este libro está realmente bien, no es la biblia, no es un manual ni una constitución. Lo llamé "herramienta" y así me gusta verlo. Lo considero muy útil.
